Runway Incursion Avoidance System (RIAS)

Collision and accidents on ground level at airports are a continuous threat to the security. RIAS is a high-tech and cost efficient solution to reduce the risk for runway incursion.

RIAS gives a total overview of all the traffic (both vehicles and airplanes) at the airport area, primarily on taxiways and runways. RIAS predicts possible dangerous traffic, calculates future directions and predicts crossing traffic. RIAS automatically alerts both stationary and mobile units when divergence or abnormal traffic occurs.

RIAS is a patent protected technology, emphasizing the combined use of GPS, acoustic and wireless communication for secure tracking of objects and alert when abnormal traffic occurs.

RIAS uses secure and modern technology with focus on solid system architecture and redundant communication channels from mobile devices and acoustic environment. The internal surveillance system controls that all critical components and precedes an alert if any technical divergence occurs.

RIAS is developed in cooperation with Avinor and Innovation Norway.
